APPRECIATING the LEO PETERS 2 FAMILY...because my late grandfather Leo Peters was the first to trademark the "Butterball" name (which he later sold to the turkey company ie armour, but retained the rights to use the name for his butter factory, ie butterball farms,) and was also involved in various meat endeavors, and my memories of Thanksgiving revolve around a big meal at the "butterball mansion" I am adding a thanksgiving section to this blog!

REMEMBER, BUTTERBALL TURKEY IS NOT AFFILIATED w/ GRANDPA's BUTTERBALL
FARMS BUTTER,
APART from the fact that grandpa sold the name “butterball” many years ago
to the turkey
company (as an aside, grandpa dabbled in the meat business as well,
& always hosted big
thanksgiving meals at
the butterball mansion

some correspondence between Carl Henry & Leo Peters (some blurry) (July 1983, I think)
the story behind how i obtained these documents is an interesting one as well. these papers are from the "Peters Collection" on file at the Calvin College Library. In order to view them you need to go in person and ask for the file and remain in the small room while you view them with the other person present (kind of like viewing top secret classified material at the Capitol or something ! ha ha, not really) .
These documents are for anybody to view, but you cannot check them out. And if you want copies- well, I had to take pictures of them with my regular old cam phone. It's a big bulky file and some of the papers are fading out. That's why some of what you see here is not exactly in pristine condition. Oh, and the first time I went to see them it was in the middle of covid lockdown and the library was semi-closed although they would come to the door and allow people in for special purposes.
My special purpose was to view these documents (I wouldn't be near anybody except the person who handed me the file and she could still stay more than 6-feet away after the handoff) and since I was coming from out-of-state it's not something that I could easily do later.
Nonetheless, Paul Fields the librarian at the time said I needed to take my temperature three days consecutively before i could come in ! I couldn't believe it ! Ridiculous. I wasn't sick. I wasn't feeling sick. And I didn't have a fever. It seemed like he just concocted some cockamamie "rule" on the spot
So I couldn't get it done the first attempt. It was a few years later that I returned after covid and was able to view the collection for the first time and photograph it. I will try to post some of the more intersting ones here in the near future.
Meanwhile, you can view the whole file without commentary by me at https://peters-appreciation.blogspot.com/p/the-peters-papers-or-peters-collection.html
