maybe without Leo Peters there would be NO butterball turkey ! NO, he doesn't own butterball turkey, but he owned the name exclusively, until he sold it to the turkey giant, but retained the rights to also keep using it for his "beautiful butter" !
Butterball Farms still produces butter in Grand Rapids Michigan, and probably can still be found at various McDonalds restaurants with your order of hotcakes .
And they also sell big beautiful patties for fine dining, etc. And YES, he also dabbled in meat on the side and even owned a restaurant called "Juicyful" for a while that excelled in keeping the meat juicy.
Leo was a colorful fellow (rest-in-peace) and some would even go so far as to call him the "notorious Leo Peters" - very combative in terms of theology among other things- for a while it was Leo vs Calvin College (University) and the CRC (Christian Reformed Church) in regards to the number of days of God's creation, among other things.
Nonetheless, he always hosted big Thanksgiving dinners every year and some might say he could be a nice guy, sometimes. Anyways, here's to the late Leo Peters (and the Peters family (who helped him start the butter business) - the original gangster(s) of Butterball and Thanksgiving !
